I always knew I wanted to own a business. When I started this venture I wanted a community that would appreciate progressive merchandise for children with high quality and design. Portland was a perfect fit. I have a degree in early childhood education and fine art with 7 years experience at the Hands on Children’s Museum in Olympia, Washington. I have worked for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and as a day care Director for a leading company in Portland.
My work experience ranges from organizing large-scale events for the community to managing staff and volunteers. At the children’s museum I was in charge of over 60 community events per year as manager of programming for the museum.
At KinderCare Learning Corporation I started as a director in training and after 6 months was promoted to daycare Director of 2 day care centers in Portland. Another responsibility here included arranging open-house events that included organizing television commercials with Comcast and radio commercials for Radio Disney.
I’ve also volunteered for Mentor Portland during the past 3 years, an organization that provides mentors for “at risk” youth in the community.
A combination of my work history and education lead to opening the doors at Little Urbanites in November of 2007. It combined all of my passions; art and design, education for the young child, and serving the local community. My vision for the store and the experience comes out in every detail. I want to create a relaxed, informative, and designed space for all the parents to be. A place that causes a parent to smile when they walk in.
