Roasters of gourmet coffee since 1989

Sisters Coffee Company, a 22 year old specialty coffee roaster headquartered in Sisters, Oregon has opened a new café in the Pearl District of Portland, Oregon. It is the company’s third location and looks to adapt their rustic Oregon brand to the bustling market of Northwest Portland.

“This is a dream come true for my wife, Joy and I. When we started Sisters Coffee Company in 1989, we never thought we’d have three locations, let alone a coffeehouse in Portland,” says owner Winfield Durham. “We feel blessed to have built so many long-standing customer relationships”

Sisters Coffee Company – THE PEARL - is across from Bridgeport Brewery and Safeway on the ground level of the Wyatt Apartments, the prestigious apartment high rise completed in 2007. With 28 foot ceilings and windows spanning the entire distance on two sides, ample natural light will help create warm, inviting feeling for customers.

The coffeehouse’s first floor features a living room area with a sandstone fireplace and piano for live music. The kitchen and barista area was designed with the help of Tom Palm of Design and Layout Services as well as Keith Schrader of Bamboo Revolution. “We put a lot of time into designing the most efficient bar possible and wanted to get the best people we could to aid us,” says Justin.

Perhaps the most striking aspect of this coffeehouse is its 253 sf mezzanine. Offering a conference table and 40” television for public use, this area allows for groups to congregate for presentations and meetings. Also located upstairs is a Community Library where customers will be able to exchange books, with the focus being on facilitating an environment of thought, reflection and dialogue.

Menu focus on offering premium micro-lot coffees served by the cup through a variety of ways including, Hario, Chemex, French Press and Drip. The espresso menu offers several specialty drinks that Sisters Coffee Company has recently been working on in addition to the traditional fare. This location has an expanded Breakfast and Lunch menu including made to order breakfast sandwiches, grab n’ go items and vast array homemade and locally purveyed pastries as well as an evening dessert menu.

The arts are a major theme of this shop. In addition to frequent live music events the café will feature Sisters Artist Dan Rickards and his Western Landscape work. “One of our objectives was to introduce the Sisters Community to our local customers in the Pearl, so people have a vision of where our company is based and the people associated with it,” says Joy Durham.

In all, Winfield Durham is proud to continue to offer a quality product that people all over the Northwest have enjoyed for over 22 years. He gets up every morning at 4AM to go roast his coffee and can’t imagine doing anything else.
